The advance of Brazilian paper production

Brazil is a major paper producer. It stands out worldwide for producing and supplying markets with expressive volumes of packaging paper, printing and writing papers and cardboard. In the last ten years, Brazil increased its production by 36.1%, with an average growth rate of 3.1% per year, in keeping with the changes that have occurred in the Brazilian economy. The social and economic development and the increase in the population’s income have resulted in a greater demand for books, notebooks, newspapers and magazines, packaging for food, medicines and personal hygiene items. In 2009, the industry ranked as the world’s 9th largest paper producer and, in 2010, production was 9.8 million metric tons of paper.
