Celulose Nipo-Brasileira - Cenibra

Mills/Offices: state of Minas Gerais

Cenibra was set up on September 13, 1973. Located in the East of Minas Gerais, it is the result of the entrepreneurship of former Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (currently Vale) and Japan Brazil Paper and Pulp Resources Development Co. Ltd. (JBP). The two companies joined efforts to make a dream come true and create a large forest-based company. In July 2001, JBP – a Japanese group of companies with large experience in relationships with Brazil – became the sole shareholder in Cenibra.

Product: Bleached hardwood kraft pulp.

Cenibra’s final product - bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp - is used as raw material for countless products. Since June 2002, the company produces only Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp. The product can be traced from forestlands to the customer or vice versa. The Chain of Custody certification, another factor that distinguishes Cenibra in the market, assures consumers that forest products - whether wood or non-wood – cellulose paste, paper, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and microcellulose – utilize raw materials from 100% certified forests (FSC Pure) or from certified forests and controlled sources (Mixed Source), according to FSC principles and criteria.

Cenibra was the first Brazilian company to simultaneously receive FSC’s and Certflor’s Forestry Management and Chain of Custody certifications. These achievements attest the excellence of the Forest Management and Chain of Custody criteria of one of the world’s largest producers of bleached hardwood kraft pulp.

Social Responsibility: The company operates in 100 municipalities in the State of Minas Gerais, where it has various social and environmental projects, partnerships with local entities, and initiatives providing income generation and integration with the objective of contributing to sustainable development.

The Instituto Cenibra, responsible for relations with the community, perform actions that support citizenship, collective well-being, social development, economic growth and improvement in the quality of life of the population living in the territories within the company’s sphere of actions and influence.
