In 1941 Companhia Eletroquímica Paulista started its activities in the city of São Paulo with the production of Potassium Chlorate. Between 1958 and 1994, the company went through several changes in its corporate name and, in February of 1994, it became part of the group Akzo Nobel via the, then, Eka Nobel AB from Sweeden. In 1996, the company received the corporate name of Eka Chemicals do Brasil S/A.
