José Ermírio de Moraes, founder of Grupo Votorantim, always wanted to build a cellulose and paper mill. By the early 50's he got under way by planting 80 million eucalyptus saplings in Capão Bonito (SP). However, the obstacles to implementing this kind of industry turned initially the eucalyptus into coal production. Over the years, the Votorantim Grupo made several investments in the paper and cellulose segments, and little by little increased its activities in the sector. In 1995, the Group merged the paper mills it had acquired until that date - Papel Simão, Votorantim Celulose e Papel and Celpav (Celulose e Papel Votorantim) - and the VCP Votorantim Celulose e Papel was created. VCP is certified by FSC.
